HelsburyWatch: Discover the Wildlife on Our Doorstep

Almost 100 acres of woodland, meadows and riverbanks. A remarkable variety of wildlife. And a whole lot going on that you might never notice unless you stop and take a closer look.

One of the things that makes Helsbury Park special is that nature isn’t simply something to go out and find. It’s right here, all around us. Our ancient woodland, open meadows and stretches of the River Camel provide a home for an extraordinary variety of wildlife. From birds of prey circling overhead to colourful woodland birds, fascinating insects, fungi and the occasional unexpected visitor, there’s always something happening across the estate.

That’s why we’ve created HelsburyWatch – a dedicated window into the natural world at Helsbury Park.

A closer look at life at Helsbury

Working with talented local wildlife photographer Chris Reynolds, we’re building a photographic record of the animals, birds, plants and fungi that make this place their home.

The gallery captures everything from spectacular wildlife encounters to the smaller details that are so easily overlooked. A flash of colour in the undergrowth, a bird perched on a branch, an unusual fungus appearing after autumn rain or the changing character of the woodland as the seasons turn.

We’ve also installed trail cameras around the estate, giving us a fascinating glimpse into some of the activity that goes on when we’re not around. You can see some of the results through our social media channels using #HelsburyWatch.

A landscape that’s changing for nature

We’re fortunate to look after almost 100 acres of beautiful countryside, but we also recognise the responsibility that comes with it. Rewilding and nature recovery are increasingly important parts of our approach to managing the land. By allowing natural processes to take their course, improving habitats and giving wildlife space, we’re helping create an environment where nature can flourish.

It’s an ongoing process, and one of the most rewarding things is seeing how the landscape responds over time. The more closely you look, the more you discover.

Wildlife watching is part of the holiday

For guests staying at Helsbury Park, all of this is quite literally on the doorstep. You don’t need to organise an excursion or jump in the car to enjoy the natural world. Take the dogs for a wander, follow one of the paths through the woods, spend a little time beside the river or simply sit outside and see what comes along.

You might spot a buzzard overhead, watch small birds flitting between the trees or discover something fascinating growing beneath your feet. If you’re a keen photographer, there are plenty of opportunities to capture something special. And if you’re not, it’s a lovely excuse to slow down and enjoy your surroundings.

Children can enjoy the excitement of spotting wildlife, while anyone who appreciates a little peace and quiet will find plenty of space to escape the everyday.

Take a look for yourself

We’re continually adding new sightings to the HelsburyWatch gallery, so there’s always something new to discover. You can explore the photographs, see what’s been spotted recently and follow the changing seasons across the estate.

Visit HelsburyWatch and take a closer look at the wildlife that makes Helsbury Park such a special place.

And when you come to stay, remember to look a little closer. You never know what you might discover.
