Crookstock launches in Bude!

Last weekend was Crookstock! This music festival at Crooklets beach, Bude, hosted a range of cover bands and artists playing at various venues along the coast. From Cat Florence to a Foo Fighters cover band, there was something for everyone.

The Music

The acts performed across three venues: Crooklets Beach Café, Rosie’s Kitchen and The Crooklets Inn. The Crooklets Inn housed acts like DJs to a silent disco later in the evenings creating an upbeat and electric atmosphere. However, if bands are more to your taste, the Crooklets Beach Café and Rosie’s Kitchen had their fair share of options. Foo Fighters SW who headlined Rosie’s Café on the Saturday played to a large audience of all ages. Not only did the band sound great but their lead singer even resembled the real deal, aiding the emersion.

Crookstock Food

Rosie’s Kitchen could not have done a better job with the food. The street food inspired menu contributed to the festival vibes and was, of course, delicious. From soft shell tacos to bao buns to pizzas, there was, like the music, something for everyone. The vegan and vegetarian options were delicious. I had a vegan lamb soft shell taco which was the perfect accompaniment to the music from C-Bone Band who were playing in the venue. It was a hard decision, however, as I could have chosen a vegan chicken burger, roasted pulled miso aubergine bao bun, or a butternut squash and pesto pizza and more. There were also delicious ice cream and pudding options including mixed berry crumble cinnamon dusted bao buns with custard!

Whilst music festivals are about, well, music… I always believe the food and drink is a major factor in creating the perfect festival experience. Crookstock did not disappoint on anything, the music was fantastic, the food was the ultimate balance of interesting flavours whilst still having the quick and easy feel that festival food needs and the Sharps festival-friendly beers completed the set.

This free music festival was fabulous across the board. Whether you went for all three days or just one evening, you were in for a brilliant time. Being right on the beach also makes this festival so special and unique, almost creating a Boardmasters-like feel whilst maintaining the local attraction of a small festival.

Overall, Crookstock was a roaring success and we hope to see it again in years to come!
