Shopping Local for Food

There are so many independent local food producers, farm shops, butchers, breweries and more in Cornwall. Even as you’re just arriving, you are greeted by a plethora. We have highlighted some of our favourites so that you can stop and grab some delicious local produce on your way to Helsbury.

Phillip Warrens Butchers

The locally farmed, grass fed, native bred beef that you can find at Phillip Warrens Butchers has been used by the UK’s most accomplished chefs and restaurants for the past 10 years. Stop at Pennygilliam, Launceston, on your way to Helsbury and get yourself some high quality products that will wow your family and friends.

Firebrand

Whilst you’re in Pennygilliam, head down to Firebrand Brewery. Their Cornish brewed beer has become very popular, particularly their alcohol-free lager and Hazy Pale. Stop in their shop as you arrive in Cornwall and treat yourself to some of their fantastic beers. Firebrand also has a cozy taproom with a great atmosphere. If you are looking for an evening out, they host quiz nights, music nights and more. Keep an eye on their facebook page to see what they have in store.

Camelford Hardware Store

Yes it might sound crazy that a Hardware Store is on a list of food stops, but trust us. Camelford Hardware Store is well stocked with Cornish products, like Artisan Malt Vinegar. They also have a fantastic collection of vegan goodies as well as cakes, pastries and pasties. Whilst you’re there you could also pick up some beautiful flowers or anything that has been missing from your tool box. They even stock doggy ice cream so your furry friend can feel included in the fun.

Make sure you do your best to support local farmers, craftspeople, brewers and businesses when you come down to Cornwall. Being mindful about where you choose to shop can seem like a small thing but it makes a huge difference.
