St Ives – doggy day out

St Ives is one of the most spectacular places to visit in Cornwall, with four beautiful beaches, a picture postcard harbour, boat trips and many stunning art galleries and restaurants. We chose to do the trip by train as driving into St Ives is discouraged to minimise the impact on this lovely location. You can either drive to St Erth station which acts as a park and ride for the town, or do what we did and get on the train at Bodmin Parkway which has a direct connection to St Erth. Bodmin Parkway is only about 20 minutes from Helsbury, the train to St Erth takes around 40 minutes and the connection into St Ives is another 15 minutes from there. The drive would take around the same time but it is nice to let the train take the strain, and the journey takes you through some lovely countryside.

Art in St Ives

As well as the fabulous Tate gallery, the jewel in the crown is the Barbara Hepworth Gallery which is based in the artists former home and studio and has been lovingly restored to show off the artists work in a wonderful setting. As well as this there are several high quality galleries in the town which are spacious and house work from both Cornwall, the UK and abroad. It is a must see for all art lovers and mostly dog friendly too.
