Last Minute Ideas for Mother’s Day in Cornwall

Mother’s Day is tomorrow (10/03/2024) and if you still haven’t got any plans, this is for you. Cornwall is a beautiful county and provides so many last minute activities that you can do. Here are some ideas:

A Walk on the Beach

It sounds simple but a beach or cliff walk is a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day (and it’s free). Some of our favourite walks are: the cliffs at Crackington, the views are gorgeous and you can end the walk at one of the two Crackington cafes or the pub (although you may have to book). Walking along the beach from Black Rock to Widemouth is a beautiful option. If you choose to go, an early morning walk is my favourite as the beach is so peaceful and tranquil. There are cafes at Widemouth and Black Rock where you can get coffee and cake after as well. Finally, a walk on Summerleaze Beach in Bude is a great walk (although is likely to be busier than the other two). There are many café options, our personal favourite being Rosie’s Kitchen as they do the best milkshakes and dirty fries. They also have a great breakfast menu if you want to get there before 11:30.

Wildflower Hunting

Cornwall is renowned for its expansive moorland, woodland and coastal areas. A fun activity for those of you with nature loving mums could be to go out wildflower hunting. If you are staying with us at Helsbury this Mother’s Day, you can do this from your doorstep. You can use this list from the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to know what to look for. Of course, we ask that you leave the wildflowers and don’t pick them as they are an integral part of many ecosystems.

A Mother’s Day Picnic

A classic for a reason. A picnic is a great, last minute activity for Mother’s Day. Some of my best childhood memories with my mum are making apricot jam sandwiches and sitting by Helsbury pond having a picnic together. This Mother’s Day, you could create some similar, lasting memories for you and your mum at Helsbury. Your picnic doesn’t have to consist of apricot jam sandwiches. If you want to make the day properly Cornish, you can get some pasties, or even make a home made cream tea to enjoy.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Helsbury Team!
