How To Make the Most of Cornish Winter

At Christmas, we often share ideas of tourist attractions and activities, but what do we do as locals in the winter season?

Hot Chocolate and Chips by Pub Fireplaces

It may not sound like the most appealing of combinations but nothing tastes better after a winter cliff walk. Our favourite place to carry out this tradition is, of course, the Coombe Barton Inn in Crackington Haven. One of our favourite places in Cornwall, we often recommend the Coombe Barton. Our favourite memory at this pub is sitting on sofas by the fireplace with chips and hot chocolates after a freezing walk along the cliffs. To us, this is quintessential Cornish winter. If you prefer a moorland walk, The Old Inn in St Breward is a wonderfully cosy pub and the perfect end to a walk on the surrounding picturesque moors.

Christmas Present Shopping in Boscastle

Another place that we give a frequent mention, Boscastle. It is a gorgeous town all year round and has numerous bespoke craft and gift shops. From Boscastle Rocks, a shop full of crystals and witchcraft related gifts, to Boscastle Farm Shop, the perfect place to buy local foodie gifts like jams or gins, Boscastle has it all. We love going to Boscastle to find the perfect, personal gifts for Christmas. You can find something for anyone if you look hard enough. There are also many lovely restaurants, including Boscastle Farm Shop’s café.

Tavistock Christmas Market

Tavistock Christmas Market is absolutely gorgeous. It has a traditional and classic feel with farm shop stalls and local art and crafts. Tavistock is a lovely town just over the boarder in Devon, but the day out is worth the trip. With many local shops, cafes and restaurants, you can fill your day with festive food and shopping. Another great place to find bespoke and personal Christmas presents that will make your loved ones day.

Heligan Night Garden

The award-winning Heligan Night Garden returns for a season of wonder and beauty. You can journey through the magical garden trail exploring woodlands and gardens lit with installations and lanterns. Discover glittering tunnels of light, trees alight with jewels and enchanting larger-than-life wildlife lanterns celebrating the Heligan gardens and estate. Tickets required.

The places mentioned are favourites of ours for good reason. We cannot recommend them enough. Make sure to tag @helsburypark in your Instagram posts at these incredible locations.
